It's Just Beachy

You've probably never heard anyone trip over their words with excitement telling you how they were swept away by Galveston's amazingly beautiful beach. Because well, see, Galveston is on the wrong side of the Mississippi river which means the sand is brown and packed, the water muddy and the seaweed plentiful. Buutttttt, *a* beach is better than no beach, amiright?

Make lemonade!

Now that Baby Zara can walk she loves to dig her toes in that muddy sand and no matter how hard we try to steer her away, she aims for a walking path directly on the sea shells. She now tolerates her sun hat (but still won't fuss with sunglasses) and loves to ride on daddy's shoulders comfortably above the rolling waves.

The beach comes naturally to Chris, he was practically born on one, but for me it is still a bit foreign. Where I grew up (Arizona) the only natural water was surrounded by 100+ ft tall cliffs - quite the opposite of flat, sandy beaches. I guess we did have a sandbox in the backyard, but it was usually too scorching to use it.

So we take little Zara on these adventures and hope for the best - we try to appreciate the fact that we can drive to the beach in half an hour, even if it's not the peachiest beach!
