In other news...

Thank you for bearing with me during Diabetes Awareness Month. Diabetes is an important part of my life, but its not the only thing, or even the most important thing!

I am now 5 months into my training to become an Attitude Determination and Control Officer at NASA. I have passed six oral exams and am hoping to pass another this week. This training is tough and exhausting (mentally). Each week I dedicate all of my brain power to learning one subject in -depth. During college I had four or five subjects to choose from if I got bored, but this type of training is different. NASA likes to structure everything one class at a time, so it is an intense week, 40 hours jammed full of "homework" type activities for one subject, study time for the oral exam, and finally the oral exam itself. This week's subject is finishing up the State Determination software architecture and moving on to the rate gyro assembly (a set of three ring laser gyros). Hopefully I can finish two more subjects before Christmas!

I am also preparing a little talk that Chris and I will deliver to Heather's (my sister's) 5th grade classroom when we are back for Christmas. I'm so excited to share my story, including the obstacles, with these inner-city kids. I hope at least one of them will be inspired to start liking math and maybe even be an engineer ;-)

Since we are about to move into a house (ohmygoshimsoexcited!!!!), I'm totally putting off decorating for Christmas. In fact, depending on the timeline I may not even put up a tree...super sad. So, Chris and I decided to indulge in some holiday festivities this past weekend by walking through the "Festival of Lights" at Moody Gardens on Galveston. It was really cute, but good Lord there were a tooon of kids! The lights were beautiful and we even got a discounted ticket to the Aquarium, so of course we went through it!

Chris likes his job here, but he is always at work!!! Some nights I feel super lonely when its just me and the dogs, but at least we are together and I'm not TDY all the time anymore.

I can't wait to show you guys the house when we finally move in!!
