Learn to love like cooking // it’s not rocket science
I have yet to learn to really enjoy cooking. I've found myself liking it more when I buy a random or exotic thing at the grocery store and start there. Like buying a block of smoked Gouda. Then I'll google "smoked gouda recipe" and go from there. Makes it a little less onerous.
ReplyDeleteI admire your goal to get involved in church! It's such a wonderful way to connect and build community. I often feel like there is such a huge need for people and not enough supply of people willing and able to get involved to serve. I'm curious on how you start the process of finding a church to attend. Do you start geographically with what's close? Do you ask recommendations of friends? Are there other branches from churches you attended in other cities? Then what helps you decided which congregation to join?
Geneva, I think the engineer kicks in when I try to cook, which is not really the best way to attack the sport. I'm learning you have to be flexible and adapt recipes to what you have on hand (still working on that though ;-).
ReplyDeleteI am honestly in a bit of church funk here...I was raised Catholic, but was married at a Methodist church, which I really loved. It was small and approachable and plenty of opportunities to be involved (however my job made being consistently involved difficult). I want something similar here. It's sometimes hard to find a "smaller" congregation with a decent population of young adults and involvement opportunities. I don't want to be lost in a mega-church! It's sort of a trial and error process, attend a Sunday morning service, get a feel for the place (and sometimes going back the next week to try a different service since some may have traditional and contemporary services). It takes some time!!
Check out the community Church off Highway 3 or University Baptist or Clear Lake Methodist.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to see a real mega church check out Second Baptist on woodway and Voss in Houston or Joel Osteen;s Church they are two of the largest in the country,
