I have only spent three years on this Earth without the Hubble Space Telescope above me. Only three years. The great telescope celebrates it’s 20th birthday this month after it was placed in orbit in April of 1990. And my, what 20 years has done.
Hubble’s timing, engineering, and images are absolutely perfect. It’s launch, at a time of rapid growth in the World Wide Web, brought deep space into the homes of millions around the globe. The amazing images it has sent back have no doubt inspired thousands of young people to consider a career in science or engineering. [I know they inspired me :-) ]

Happy Birthday Hubble Space Telescope!
Here is a picture from last summer at Marshall when I was lucky enough to meet the crew of STS-125. The crew made some final repairs to Hubble and will be the last humans to ever see the giant space telescope in person.
