How Can I Keep From Ringing?

After my many handbell experiences in Arizona, it will probably come as no surprise that I have ventured into the Huntsville Handbell Scene. This weekend I attended the Tennessee Valley Handbell Association’s Festival as a fill-in member for the Madison United Methodist Handbell choir. Hurray for a weekend full of heavy lifting (G3-B3), and consequently a sore arm!

Everyone in the choir was so warm and welcoming, it was awesome to be around bell nerds again! In fact, one of the songs we played for the festival was very familiar. It just so happens that we recorded it for the publisher when I was in Bronzeworks. You can listen to it here. Ironically, another of the festival pieces was dedicated to Bronzeworks and Kay Cook (weird, huh?!). Anyway, I liked ringing with them sooooo much that I also volunteered to help them out at their 2 Sunday services! Whew, that’s a lot of bells in one weekend!

Tonight I am “auditioning” for the Heritage Ringers, a community handbell group here in Huntsville. They don’t officially have any openings until the fall, but if the audition goes well I might be able to be a sub. We’ll see, since I will be traveling a lot in the next few months.
